Climbing Gloves

Welcome to a website all about climbing gear. We hope you will find what you are looking for here. This page features climbing gloves. This domain is focused on rock climbing whether it is indoors (sport climbing might fit this better) or outdoors. So, if you're looking for gloves to climb trees or whatever else people climb, this might not be the best place for you to find that information.

The name of the gloves might be confusing. When you are rock climbing, you do not want to be wearing gloves as they will lower your dexterity. Mainly, your crimper holds will become nearly impossible to hang on to if you are wearing any gloves. If you are gripping slopers you will lose a little bit of control as well. Probably the only hold that is the same with or without gloves is a nice big jug.

So what are climbing gloves used for then you ask? It's simple. Many people find that belaying can injure your hands. Especially if you let the rope down at a faster pace. This is where a glove comes in handy. It will protect your hand as you belay your partner down the side of the wall/cliff. There are a few ways you can use the gloves. You don't actually have to put it over your hands, you can just place it inbetween your hand and the rope. This method will only wear down one glove at a time so you can make them last twice as long.

If you are belaying top rope, you probably won't have much of a need for any sort of protection for you hands. However, if you are belaying someone who is lead climbing, you will find the need increase as there is more friction and force on you than if you were belaying a top roper.

We've selected a couple gloves due to their outstanding quality and are featuing them below.

Specific Brand Customer Reveiws

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Comfy!!
Metolius 3/4 Finger Climbing Gloves - My boyfriend bought me these gloves for when we go climbing because i always complain that my hand would hurt after i belayed him. since i been wearing these gloves, it has been so much easier for me to belay. The design is nice with the fingers showing and putting it on is a snazz, the velcro lets you slip it on or off quickly. i would definitely recommend this to any climber who has sensitive hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gloves For Rappelling
Petzl K52LT Cordex Large Lightweight Glove - I bought these for a climb up Grand Teton. The fit was excellent and are well made. I like the hole for hanging them off a carabiner when not needed. They held up very well on the climb and I expect they'll last a long time based on their performance on this trip. Great product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Gloves
Petzl K52LT Cordex Large Lightweight Glove - These are very well constructed, and light enough to allow for working with tools without having to take the gloves off. They have excellent stitching and a good reinforced palm, but they are the lightweight. I do not recommend them for any fast rappels, as the palm will heat up quickly. For short recreational roping, or a combo with climbing I think they would be hard to beat.
The cuff has a hole for biners, to allow for easy carry. They fit the hand great, and there is no excess material. A good buy at a fair price.
